About Samantha Murray, Intimacy Coordinator

Sam has just completed work as Lead Intimacy Coordinator on Alfonso Cuarón’s Apple Originals series, Disclaimer, in Italy and the UK. Based between Madrid and London, she is able to support productions internationally across the UK, EU,The Balkans, Australia and beyond.

Coordinating for both large and small budget projects since 2021, Sam’s IC slate so far includes Netflix’s flagship production with Nuyorican Productions, The Mother, with Jennifer Lopez,  Sundance 2023 hit, Fair Play for MRC and T-street, as well as the critically acclaimed BBC heist series The Gold with Academy Award winning director Aneil Karia.

A background as a professional film, television and theatre actor across the last 30+ years has given Sam a rich experience to draw from and enables expert communication skills and production understanding. Navigating creative intimacy narrative, movement and physical storytelling, inter-departmental relationships and offering expert risk management alongside cast and crew support has earned her the trust and work recommendations from VPs, producers, directors, ADs and cast alike.

Sam trained in the first certification cohort with pioneering UK intimacy coordinator, Ita O’Brien in 2019-20. Following on from Levels 1 and 2 with Intimacy On Set (IOS), she continued an 18 month mentorship certification with Kate Lush from Safe Sets and continues to engage consistently with colleagues on skills development in Canada, US and the UK.

With Safe Sets (UK/SA), Sam has been pivotal to the introduction of intimacy coordination and the discussion of consent based practice into the film and television industry in non-english speaking capacities across Europe. She is the curriculum design lead and mentor for IC skills development for Safe Sets and their partnership with Netflix’s Grow Creative across the EMEA region. Since 2021, this training certification has proudly supported 17+ participants to learn, upgrade and strengthen the intimacy coordinator role in Spain, France, Poland, Germany, India, Brazil, Norway, Denmark and Sweden. This training support was extended once again by Safe Sets with the Netflix Grow Creative initiative into South Africa and the Middle East  in 2023.

Sam is a proud member of BECTU’s IC Branch (UK) and is a key contributor to their working party for guidance on optimal IC training recommendations.
